The village of Axel, in the province of Zeeland

The costumes from AXEL, a village in the Province of ZEELAND, are quite unique. What once was a large, flat kerchief became the wings they are now wearing. Brown paper or newspapers were used to give them their height. The hand beaded breast-cloth and embroidered apron strings add a special touch. Gold adorns the close-fitting starched cap. Additional gold ornaments were worn for Sundays and special occasions.
