Orange City’s 2021 Tulip Court participated in a virtual Tulip Pageant in order to select the 2021 Tulip Festival Queen.

A Queen’s Tea with the court members and three pageant judges was held on Monday, November 16. A special crowning ceremony took place on the evening of November 16 for the Tulip Festival court members and their immediate family members.

Tulip Court members for the 2021 Tulip Festival include: Elsie Bartels, daughter of Eric and Vanessa Bartels, Laura Beltman, daughter of Daryl and Shirley Beltman, Maci Brenneman, daughter of Patrick and Dana Brenneman, Grace Dahl, daughter of Rik and Amy Dahl, and Lindsey Jacobsma, daughter of Melinda Jacobsma and the late Randy Jacobsma.

The Queen and Court will serve as ambassadors for Orange City’s 80th annual Tulip Festival, set for May 13-15, 2021. For more information regarding the virtual pageant, please visit octulipfestival.com.

Hobbies & Interests One of my favorite things to do is create art. I’ve been raised by two very artistic parents, so seeing what they do with their artistic abilities influenced me as a kid to want to be just like them. I love working with colors and using them to either replicate or put a twist on something from real life. Art gives you the freedom to make the rules and express yourself, and that’s what I love about it. I also very much enjoy picking and arranging flowers. I live outside of town and have a large patch of wildflowers, so every now and then I like to grab a few for my room or the kitchen. Flowers, I think, make any place more beautiful.

School Activities At Unity Christian, I run Cross Country, sing in Concert Choir and Knightsounds, occasionally sing in chapel, and help lead a small group. School is actually one of my favorite places to be. I love hanging out with other teenagers, learning things, and having a sort of set schedule I can go by every day—and I love days when I don’t get any homework 🙂

Spare Time Activities If I’m not at school I’ll probably be spending time with family, taking care of my few house plants, working at Fareway, or going on a walk in town with a friend or two (windmill park is always the best place to meet).

Education/Career Plans After Unity I hope to go to a college close to home and study to be a high school art teacher. I love the structure of high school, and I think that the teaching career would be something I’d quite enjoy. It would be really cool to get to know a lot of students through the years and teach them about what I love. Many of my teachers have had a big impact on my life and I’d like to be able to be that for future students.

Past Tulip Festival Participation I’ve been going to Tulip Festival for as long as I can remember. Besides Christmas, Tulip Festival is my absolute favorite time of year. Each festival I go to every parade available and get as many servings of Poffertjes as my mom will allow. As a little girl, I remember seeing the queen and the court and thinking they were so magical and royal. Everything about the festival back then was magical and in my opinion better than even Disney Land. In my earlier grade school years I participated in dutch games and was chosen as one of the 2009 court pages, and then until now I have walked the mode show every year with my mom. I feel so fancy and European in my costume (it’s quite the feeling).

Laura Beltman

Hobbies & Interests One of my favorite things to do is play golf. I also love being around children and babysitting. My family and I enjoy fishing and attending Minnesota Twins baseball and Minnesota Wild hockey games. At my church I enjoy going to youth group, attending youth group activities and trips, Bible study, and volunteering in the nursery.

School Activities At Unity Christian High School I have participated in orchestra, band, and choir. I have enjoyed playing on the golf, volleyball, and softball teams. I have served as a class officer since my freshman year. The past two years I have been a Living Group Leader. During my time at Unity I have enjoyed playing the piano and synthesizer in chapel and also being a chapel leader. Last spring I played my violin in the orchestra pit for the school musical. I have participated in science fair and National History Day at the district and state levels.

Spare Time Activities In my spare time I like to bake and share treats with others. I enjoy going on bike rides and spending time with family and friends. I also love listening to and playing worship music.

Education/Career Plans I plan on attending a 4-year Christian liberal arts college or university after high school. Currently I am undecided on my major.

Past Tulip Festival Participation I have had the privilege of participating in the parade from a very young age. I have enjoyed riding floats and participating as a member of the Orange City Christian School marching band. I have also been a part of the Straatfest as a member of the junior Dutch dance.

Hobbies & Interests I love to hike, write songs, read, and journal.

School Activities I’m involved the Band, Orchestra, Speech, Cheerleading, and Soccer at MOC-Floyd Valley.

Spare Time Activities I enjoy stargazing, going on walks with my mom, disc golfing, card games and spending time with my family.

Education/Career Plans I plan on attending a four year liberal arts college. I’m interested in studying journalism or political science.

Past Tulip Festival Participation I’ve been part of Tulip Festival since 2nd grade. I have danced for several years and marched with the POD Marching Band.

Lindsey Jacobsma

Parents: Melinda Jacobsma and Late Randy Jacobsma

Hobbies & Interests I love spending time outdoors and look forward to Summers in Okoboji with family and friends! I grew up spending time at Royal Oaks where we had fun boating, tubing, and jet skiing. I have also recently enjoyed time at Cutty’s Resort, swimming, having fires, and mini golfing. Traveling is another interest of mine, I’m always excited to see new parts of the country! The last few years I’ve also taken up photography, and like to take pictures of my friends and family.

School Activities Over the last four years at Unity, I have had the opportunity to be involved in volleyball, softball, and Symphonic Band. I also enjoy being a Living Group Leader and going to any sporting event I can to cheer on my friends and classmates. In addition, I am part of the UCHS Honor Roll.

Spare Time Activities My family and I are extremely close, and we always make time to see each other. I have five older siblings and many nieces and nephews that always make life exciting! Together my family loves to cheer on the Iowa Hawkeyes. During the Summer months, I enjoy being a lifeguard at the Orange City Pool and going to RYS Convention with my church. Some other things I like to do in my spare time is spending time with friends, working at Prairie Winds Event Center, Pizza Ranch, and being a CNA at the Orange City Hospital.

Education/Career Plans Next fall, I plan on attending Northwestern College with a major in either Nursing or Business Administration and Spanish. I’d also love to study abroad while in college!

Past Tulip Festival Participation I have always enjoyed being part of Tulip Festival since I was a young girl. Some past activities include riding floats, street scrubbing, Dutch Games, and Dutch Dance. I also participated in the OCCS Tiger Marching Band, playing the flute and doing baton.
