Experience the Art of Stipwerk at the Tulip Festival Luncheon presented by Dutch American Heritage Museum

Step back in time and discover the intricate beauty of Stipwerk, a traditional Dutch folk art, at this year’s Tulip Festival Luncheon Demonstration! Discover the local beauty of stipwerk, a traditional Dutch folk art from the village of Staphorst in the Netherlands. At the luncheon, a local museum artisan will demonstrate and teach the fundamental skills of the art of stipwerk. Following lunch, participants will have time to create their own stipwerk design on a wooden shoe plant stake.

What is Stipwerk?
Stipwerk, or “dot work,” is a traditional technique in which nail or pin heads are dipped into paint and stamped onto fabric or other materials to create motifs and decorative patterns. In Staphorst women’s attire, this art form is featured on the kraplap (outer breast garment) and hat, where vibrant, colorful dots contrast against black fabric.  Now, you have the opportunity to witness and participate in this beautiful tradition firsthand!
