JOIN THE FUN AS A VOLUNTEER FOR TULIP FESTIVAL 2008

Orange City, IA -- Tulip Festival 2008 is set for May 15 to 17, and there are many opportunities to join the fun as a volunteer. The Orange City Tulip Festival's Steering Committee invites participation by people of all ages, including newcomers, visitors, and long-time residents. Contact volunteer leaders listed below to lend a hand and help welcome visitors to the community.

Would you enjoy escorting a dignitary around for part of a day?  Call Mark Lundberg (737-3779) or Marilyn Van Engelenhoven (737-2861)

Might you serve as an usher to help visitors find seating along the parade route? Call John Clarey: 737-3654.

Do you enjoy arranging flowers? Call Catrina Schauff at the Flower Cart (737-4902) and join her staff as they arrange flowers on Tuesday, May 13. Containers and tulips provided.

Would you like to drive a float or other parade vehicle?  Call 737-4911 and ask for Bill Kepp or Jim Plagge.

Care to extend hospitality to visiting marching bands?  Contact Melinda Netten at melnet@mail.com or call 752-8372.

The Orange City Tulip Festival's Steering Committee also invites community members to participate in the 2008 Straatfeest "Mode Show." This pre-parade event highlights authentic Dutch costumes every afternoon during Festival. Contact Kristin Breen (707-9277) to join the Mode Show – for one day or every day. For photos of authentic clothing that will be on display, go to http://www.octulipfestival.com/provinces.htmCheck the Tulip Festival web site (http://www.octulipfestival.com/Costumeexchange.htm) for information and availability of costumes, or to sell or rent outfits that are outgrown or no longer needed. This website is convenient and free, and it is possible to post costumes directly to the Tulip Festival web site, along with a digital photo.

"There is a need for many volunteers and we'd love to welcome new participants in 2008," say Bert & Peg Aarsen, who chair this year's Steering Committee. "There are so many ways to get involved, meet and greet visitors, and get acquainted with other community members. Volunteers usually have such a great time that they look forward to returning, but we're always adding new activities so the need for new helpers continues to grow. We would love to see newcomers!"
