Learning the landler

It's a folk dace, popular in Austria, south Germany and German Switzerland at the end of the 18th century.  There's hopping and stamping, and sometimes a bit of yodeling. Enter Maria and Captain von Trapp – Emily Hinkle and Laird Edman. They're learning the landler for the Tulip Festival production of The Sound of Music. Music and dancing rehearsals are going very well, said director Janie Van Dyke. Volunteers are building sets and painting drops, costumes are coming together, program design has begun. Soon the cast will hit the stage to begin blocking, she said. Dates for the production are May 14-17. For tickets, visit the Windmill Chamber office or call 707-4510. (Photo submitted)
