Tulip Festival Road Race Goes High Tech

The annual Orange City Kiwanis Club Road Race, held in conjunction with the community's annual Tulip Festival, is going high tech for the first time this year to make it even more appealing to competitive runners.

The 5K and 10K races will feature the TimeTrack computer-aided timing system from AllSportCentral.com, which provides pace and finish information for each runner, along  with faster and more accurate post-race results. In addition, course certification by the U.S. Track & Field Association is pending for both the 5K and 10K courses.

Last year, the Tulip Festival road races had a total of 255 runners among the various age categories in the women's and men's 5K and 10K runs. This year the Kiwanis Club, which sponsors the event and donates all proceeds to charitable causes, hopes to attract up to 500 runners.

The Saturday morning event also includes a one-mile "tulip walk" and a 5K fitness walk for individuals and groups of all ages. Runners can sign up on-line at www.allsportcentral.com or through the Orange City Tulip Festival web site. Walkers may download  a registration form from the Orange City Tulip Festival web site: www.octulipfestival.com/run.htm.
