Dutch Costume Patterns

  • There are Dutch costume patterns in the O.C. Library.  The library patterns are those which the average seamstress can successfully sew to make authentic costumes.  The cost to copy the adult patter is $5.00 and the child pattern is $3.00.  Generally these costumes are less expensive to make.   The more intricate and complicated costume patterns that have required a great deal of research are stored in the Little White Store and owned by the Dutch Pattern Committee.  These patterns have many pieces, are more detailed,  are more difficult to construct and some have scant sewing instructions.  You will need to go through one of the costume consultants to use these patterns. The present consultants are Denise De Vries (737-4725 or 737-4221 in the mornings and Marlys Hop (737-4331).

Seamstresses

  • If you're interested in having a new authentic Dutch costume made, there may still be time! The Steering Committee is asking that you consider a costume representing the provinces of Zaan, Twente, or Drenthe, which are in short supply at the annual Tulip Festival. Contact one the following area seamstresses for information about costumes, and their availability to sew one for this year's festival:  Wendy Eason (737-3268), Nancy Statema (737-4218), Janine Oolman (737-4749), Delores DeJong (Volendam hats only, 707-9226), Amanda Haverdink (Aaron.amanda.haverdink@gmail.com or 360-0054) and Barb Alsum (756-4500) for hats only.
