Dutch Dozen Auditions

The Dutch Dozen was formed in 1947, and continues to be a highlight of the festival each year. A group of 12 young ladies and 12 young men, all in high school, provide a colorful, light-hearted and melodious journey through Old Holland, with most of the choreographed singing in Dutch. Dutch Dozen members wear traditional Volendam costumes, and the ladies wear signature orange klompen, or wooden shoes.

Tickets for the 2019 Tulip Festival Night Show, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, will be on sale starting Tuesday, January 15, 2019. Tickets will be available at the Orange City Chamber Office starting at 8:00 a.m. that day. An option to buy online is also available this year and can be purchased here: ONLINE TICKETS (octulipfestival.com/tickets). Tickets are available for $25 each.

In addition to the May 15-18 lineup of showings with a start time of 8:00 p.m., there will be two additional shows this year, taking place on Monday and Tuesday, May 13 and 14. The Monday and Tuesday shows will begin at a special time, 6:30 p.m., creating a family-friendly time frame for all to enjoy. Kids are encouraged to wear costumes and can get their picture taken with the cast after the show.

Building on the show’s success and overwhelming response from 2018, Todd Vande Griend will again be leading the Night Show with Sarah Weber, Producer, and Becky Donahue, Choreographer.

Boasting a long history, the Tulip Festival Night Show is a must-see attraction for all ages. The show is performed in the Unity Christian Knight Center, located at 216 Michigan Avenue SW in Orange City.

2019 Orange City Tulip Queen Crowned

Allison Haverdink was crowned the 2019 Tulip Festival Queen on Monday, Nov. 12. Allison will reign over the 79th annual Tulip Festival, set for May 16, 17, and 18, 2019.

A senior at MOC-Floyd Valley High School in Orange City, Allison Haverdink, is the daughter of Mark and Suzanne Haverdink.

Allison is joined on the 2019 Tulip Court by court members Aarika Van Gelder, daughter of Larry and Phyllis Van Gelder, Emma De Groot, daughter of Don and Michelle Vaas, Jadeyn Schutt, daughter of Bruce and Amy Schutt, Jadeyn Veltkamp, daughter of Susan Veltkamp and Brad Veltkamp.

Allison and her court members spent Monday afternoon interviewing with judges Matt Breen, Andrea (Smits) Hydeen, and Jan Snyder.

A pageant was held for the public in the evening. Each of the candidates answered questions on various topics and gave an individual presentation. Allison was crowned queen as a conclusion to the evening.

Allison and her court will serve as ambassadors for the Orange City Tulip Festival as they travel in the spring, making several media and public appearances.

 

2019 Tulip Festival Night Show Auditions Scheduled

The 2019 Night Show is BEAUTY and THE BEAST.  Open auditions will be held for all positions, we adding 20+ parts for the 2019 Night Show. We want you to come and try out to be a part of this fantastic show. Auditions will be held in the Unity Christian Knight Center.

Auditions will be open on Tuesday, Jan. 8 from 7-9 pm, Thursday, Jan. 10 from 7-9 pm, and Saturday, Jan 12 from 9-12 pm.  And will be held at the Unity Christian Knight Center. Interested parties freshman in high school age and up are invited to audition. You do not need to prepare any material prior to auditioning.

2019 Tulip Queen Pageant to be held November 12

The 2019 Tulip Queen Pageant will be held Monday, Nov. 12 at the Unity Christian Knight Center. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the event will begin at 7:00 p.m. Admission is $5 for all attendees, regardless of age or whether they choose to vote.

Tulip Queen candidates will give presentations on Orange City and will be interviewed by both the judges and emcees of the event. Attendees will have the opportunity to cast their vote for the 2019 Tulip Queen during the pageant. The 2019 Tulip Queen will be crowned as a conclusion to the event.

The Tulip Festival Night Show will also make some announcements during the event.

Orange City’s 2019 Tulip Court Elected

 

Orange City’s 2019 Tulip Court was elected on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018.

Tulip Court members for the 79th annual Tulip Festival are: Aarika Van Gelder, daughter of Larry and Phyllis Van Gelder, Allison Haverdink, daughter of Mark and Suzanne Haverdink, Emma De Groot, daughter of Don and Michelle Vaas, Jadeyn Schutt, daughter of Bruce and Amy Schutt, Jadeyn Veltkamp, daughter of Brad and Susan Veltkamp.

A Queen’s Tea and Pageant will be held on November 12 to crown the 2019 Tulip Queen. The Queen and Court will serve as ambassadors for Orange City’s 79th annual Tulip Festival, set for May 16-18, 2019.

2019 Tulip Court Elections to be held September 19

The 2019 Tulip Court Election will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018.

Voting for the 2019 Tulip Court will take place from 12 to 8 p.m. at Stadscentrum, located on the corner of Central Avenue and Second Street North in Orange City.

Eligible voters are adults with an Orange City address and 7th through 12th-grade students at MOC-Floyd Valley, Orange City Christian School, and Unity Christian High School.

Tulip Court candidates for 2019 are: Aarika Van Gelder, daughter of Larry and Phyllis Van Gelder, Allison Haverdink, daughter of Mark and Suzanne Haverdink, Anna Van Holland, daughter of Greg and Susan Van Holland, Brooke Venema, daughter of Dan and Tonya Venema, Emma De Groot, daughter of Don and Michelle Vaas, Jadeyn Schutt, daughter of Bruce and Amy Schutt, Jadeyn Veltkamp, daughter of Brad and Susan Veltkamp, Jordyn Jeltema, daughter of Allen and Pam Jeltema, Lindsay Kuiper, daughter of Bruce and Nicki Kuiper.

The 2019 Tulip Court will be announced after 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20.

In addition to the May 15-18 line up of shows, there will be an additional show on Monday & Tuesday, May 13 & 14. Tryouts for the show will be announced soon.  Location of the tryout will be the Unity Christian Knight Center.

New photos have been released detailing the types of costumes Orange City will see when Beauty and the Beast hits the stage. The entire cast will be costumed with professional rented costumes from Costume World Theatrical, of Deerfield Beach, FL; the largest provider of costumes in the country.

Adult Dutch Dance practice dates are set for Tulip Festival

The Tulip Festival Steering Committee invites adults, college-age and older, to participate in the Adult Dutch Dance portion of this year’s Straat Feest. Both new and returning dancers are welcome and encouraged to join.

Adult Dutch Dance Practice dates are set for six Monday evenings, beginning in April. The dates include April 9, 16, 23, 30, as well as May 7, 14. Each practice will be held from 6:00 to 6:45 p.m. at the Orange City Town Hall.

Authentic Dutch costumes are required for participants. If you’re new to the group, we encourage you to come to all of the practices. If you are a returner, feel free to join us as your schedule permits, but we’d love to have everyone on the final Monday before Tulip Festival.
